The Big Reveal

The bathroom is finally finished and turned out even better than we imagined. In true Cory-and-Heather fashion, we addressed every detail. Virtually everything in there is new or has been redone, except for the ceiling. I'm so thankful to have a handy husband with handy friends. They did an absolutely amazing job.

My original vision was to create a hotel-style bathroom, and I think we managed. It's luxurious yet warm and functional. I love love love it.

Here are some of the details. It's so hard to photograph in there because of the lighting, but I did my best:

A hand tiled shower with lots of detail. It turned out gorgeous.

Inset shelving in the tile shower walls. Brad did a great job on these.

When I first spotted the bold shape of this mirror at Lowe's, I was convinced it was perfect for above the sink. I was right. One of my favorite elements.

Chrome fixtures, and a new granite countertop with inset white porcelain sink on our old vanity. Cory drove all over town to get just the right color.

A fresh coat of "espresso" paint with brand-new chrome hinges and handles on our old vanity.

Fluffy towels to match in earthen tones. A bargain at Home Goods.

I have a feeling this will be it for home decor projects for us for a long while...

What are my chances?

Alice and Wonderland has long been one of my favorite books. Tim Burton's work fascinates me, freaky as he may be. And I've adored Johnny Depp since the days of 21 Jump Street, even though this particular character really creeps me out.

It is so unfair that this movies premieres on March 5th, mere days before I'm due.

I really want to see this movie. At the Imax. In 3D. Really. Really, really, really. It might be unrealistic to think I'll be able to sit through a 2+ hour movie when I'm 9 months pregnant. But something tells me it will be even less likely that we will make it out to see it after the baby actually arrives.

Will I make it? Time will tell. Until then I can watch the trailer over and over....

The Bathroom Weekly

Bathroom updates seem to have taken over my blog. Perhaps it's fitting, considering that pesky little room is the first thing I see every evening and the last thing I see every night.

Here is what got done this week. First, some pics from Monday. The floor and shower floor were set. LOVE IT. We could not be happier.

Fast forward to Wednesday. The shower walls were under construction, complete with a mosaic strip. The guys convinced me to add this, and I'm glad they did. It lends a little decorative touch, without being too "crusty".

What you can't see is the rear shower wall, which has two inset cubby-type holes. The one on top is for shampoo and such, the little one on the bottom is a foot rest for shaving legs (mine, of course). Hard to believe a man had to suggest that to me. And, no more ugly-wire-shower-organizer thingies hanging from the shower spigot! Ingenious!

The bedroom walls are also now a rich chocolate brown. The boys also painted the trim a bright white (it was navy blue, of all things, blech!) I absolutely LOVE the shade. Not too dark, not too light. I still can't wait to get everything back into place, but I'm trying to be understanding of the temporary mess (I do better at this at some times than at others. Please forgive me, I am eight months pregnant and a little moody.)

Bad news today was that we had to postpone the shower. What a painful morning. I hate putting people out. Glad that everything was resolved, everyone stayed safe, and most will be able to make it next week. Now, if the snow will just stay away...

Progress

We've made some headway in the bathroom. And I use the term "we" loosely. Cory and his friend Brad (among a few other folks) have done all of the work, and they still have quite a bit more ahead of them. I plan to continue my role in the whole project as the armchair quarterback, which is my specialty these days. Even if I did want to help with the physical work, there wouldn't be any room to move around in there if I actually tried to do so, LOL.

Here's what the bathroom looked like at the beginning of the weekend:

During the week, Jeremy had poured the base of the shower. We've been waiting for that to dry. Yesterday, Cory finished the shower stall walls, then Brad came over and waterproofed the whole thing (that's the lovely lavendar-blue in the photo below). No more leaks! We're doing this thing right this time!

After Brad left, Cory had ants in his pants and he wanted to keep working, so he tore the top off the vanity and sealed the plumbing ready for the new vanity top. Guess I'm not the only one nesting!

By the end of the day today, we should have tile on the floor and the shower floor, ready for grout tommorow. I can't wait to see how it all comes together.
